The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part's Trailer Is Apocalyptic And Ridiculous
When The Lego Movie arrived in 2014, no one could have predicted just how popular the animated blockbuster would be. The movie ultimately made a whopping $469.1 million, picking up a bevy of award nominations and critical praise in the process. The Lego movie franchise has since expanded, with new spinoffs coming in the form of both The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie arriving in quick succession. But all eyes are on the upcoming main sequel, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and now the first trailer is finally here. Check it out.
This first trailer opens after the events of the first film, with time probably passing at about the same pace as reality. The Lego Movie gave the fans a happy ending, with Will Ferrell and his son Finn reconciling their differences, and playing with the legos free from Lord Business' Kragle and evil plans. But it doesn't appear that things turned out quite as well for the cast beloved Lego characters, as the DUPLO invasion teased in the first film's final scene came, and seriously wrecked everything.
Things have gone seriously downhill, with Brickburg declining to an apocalyptic wasteland akin to Mad Max. And while the colorful cast of characters are all looking especially miserable and worse for the wear, Chris Pratt's Emmet is exactly the same. The jolly protagonist is still going through his day as if everything is awesome, but it's not the case. And things are about to get a lot worse.
Because before long, we are introduced to The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part's big villain: Sweet Mayhem. Voiced by newcomer Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), she comes to Brickburg to find its fiercest warrior. Ultimately she end sup kidnapping a gaggle of characters, including Wyldstyle, Lego Batman, Unikitty, Metalbeard, and Benny the Spaceman. It looks like it's going to be up to Emmet to save the day, which is probably going to make his previously mentioned friends pretty damn nervous.
The pressure is certainly on for The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part to deliver as many laughs, iconic characters, and surprisingly heartfelt moments as its predecessor. The entire starring cast is set to return, with original directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord returning as producers.
