Why The Flash Didnt Get A Second Costume In Justice League

If your name is Barry Allen and you've been gifted with super speed after being struck by lightning, then it's mandatory that you fight crime while wearing a red costume. Ezra Miller's version of The Flash did just that briefly in Suicide Squad and fully in Justice League, because even though he was still new to the superhero game, he was still properly equipped when it came time to battle Steppenwolf and his Parademon army. As it turns out, though, there were originally plans for Flash to receive a second costume that was imbued with "Wayne tech" at the end of Justice League, but director Zack Snyder ultimately decided he didn't want to interfere with whatever the director for the Scarlet Speedster's solo movie wanted to do. In Snyder's words:

I wanted to give the Flash solo film director a chance to put his or her spin on it so no more a Concept.

Continuing to share details about his time in the DC Extended Universe on Vero, Zack Snyder posted a picture of Ezra Miller's first Flash costume test, and afterwards he touched upon how we would have seen this version of Barry Allen be given a new and enhanced suit once Justice League's main action wrapped up, only to scrap that idea. While I am intrigued by what Snyder and his team could have come up with, I can't fault Snyder for not wanting to step on the toes of whoever was hired to helm Flash's movie. Superhero costume changes between movies are quite frequent, but at least now directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein have the freedom to either commission someone to design a new costume for their movie or stick with the one he's already wearing. And hey, Justice League still delivered a costume change of sorts at the end, as Cyborg's robotic body altered itself to more closely resemble how he looks in the comics.

If you think about, technically the traditional Flash suit is the second costume Ezra Allen's Barry Allen has worn, because when the future Barry briefly appeared during Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice after Bruce Wayne's Knightmare, he was wearing a suit that was radically different from his usual garb. As for Flash's current suit, Barry made it from the same composite material that NASA uses to protect its spaceships from burning up during reentry. After all, when you're running at such incredible speeds, you don't want your threads to catch on fire during a mission.

At this point, there's little we know about The Flash's upcoming movie other than Ezra Miller will obviously reprise the speedy protagonist and Kiersey Clemons will finally debut as Iris West. Last year at San Diego Comic-Con, it was announced that the movie's title was Flashpoint, meaning it would adapt the 2011 storyline of the same name, but it's recently been rumored that's no longer happening. We also have yet to learn when Flash's solo movie will race into theaters, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for that update and other major developments.

DCs Shazam Trailer Is Exciting And Hilarious

Shazam, previously known as Captain Marvel, has been around since the Golden Age of Comics; at one point, he was arguably more popular than Superman! Now, after decades of appearances on the printed page, TV shows and video games, the World's Mightiest Mortal is finally making his live action theatrical debut next year, and straight out of San Diego Comic-Con, the first Shazam! trailer has arrived. Take a look, below!

Inspired by Shazam's New 52 origin story, Shazam! sees Billy Batson (Asher Angel) joining a foster family, as his parents died when he was five. Among the members of this family are Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer), who looks like he'll be one of the main sources of comedic relief in the movie. But more importantly, this preview shows us Billy taking the first steps on his superhero journey, as what he believed would be a normal subway ride turns instead brings him before the mysterious Wizard. Upon saying the Wzard's name (you guessed it, it's Shazam), Billy is transformed into a mighty, costumed adult (Zachary Levi) with a wide variety of superpowers. That's where things take a more amusing turn.

Even though it's set in the DC Extended Universe, Shazam! definitely feels much different than its predecessors. Upon finding Freddy and convincing him who he is, the Shazam-ified Billy starts testing out his powers with Freddy's help. Super strength is relatively easy to use, but he still needs to get the hang of flight and conjuring electricity. Still, being a superhero is a dream many kids have, so for Billy, this is the ultimate wish fulfillment. He gets to beat up common criminals and enjoy snacks afterwards!

But as is the case with every superhero movie, eventually a super villain comes in. Originally the plan was for Shazam to fight Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson) in his first movie, but the Kahndaqian anti-hero's introduction is now being saved for his own movie. Instead, Shazam will clash with Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong), who is usually depicted in the comics as being extremely intelligent, but physically weak. Not so in Shazam!, because as this trailer shows, the DCEU's Sivana can easily catch one of our intrepid hero's punches. It looks like Sivana will be also be a physical threat, and if that eye of his is any indication, like his New 52 counterpart, he's also capable of seeing magic. So yeah, being a superhero won't be quite as easy as Billy initially assumed.

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! will works its magic in theaters on April 5, 2019, so stay tuned to CinemaBlend for more updates about the movie. Before bidding adieu to the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 3 with Avengers 4, we'll be turning the clock back to the 1990s for Captain Marvel. After decades of being a major player in the Marvel Comics universe, Carol Danvers is finally making her cinematic debut, making her the first MCU superheroine to lead her own movie. Brie Larson was cast as Carol back in summer 2016, and over the last few months, Captain Marvel has been assembling the rest of its cast. Originally that was supposed to include DeWanda Wise, but the She's Gotta Have It star was recently forced to depart, and now Marvel has reportedly tapped Still-Star Crossed star Lashana Lynch as her replacement.

Yesterday it was reported that due to scheduling conflicts with Season 2 of Netflix's She's Gotta Have It, DeWanda Wise had to exit Captain Marvel. Less than 24 hours later, THR has heard that Lashana Lynch is in final negotiations to take over Wise's mystery role. Lynch is arguably best known for playing Rosaline in the short-lived ABC series Still-Star Crossed. Her other TV credits include Atlantis and Crims, while on the movies side of things, she's appeared in Fast Girls, Powder Room and Brotherhood. So assuming a deal is finalized, Captain Marvel will become Lynch's biggest project yet.

With Captain Marvel entering the principal photography stage, ideally Marvel will officially announce the movie's cast soon, and with that reveal who the character is that Lashana Lynch is being eyed to play. Considering her close ties to Carol Danvers in the comics, I've suspected since DeWanda Wise was attached that this individual is Monica Rameau, who served as the Marvel universe's second Captain Marvel and later used the identities Photon, Pulsar and Spectrum. Assuming this is correct, since Captain Marvel is depicting Carol's origin story, I doubt we'll see Monica gain her own special abilities, but it's likely she'll still be an important supporting character.

Specific plot details for Captain Marvel haven't been revealed yet, but just like in the comics, the movie will see Carol Danvers being imbued with powers like super strength, flight and energy manipulation after her DNA is merged with that of an alien's during an accident. Upon becoming a superhero, Brie Larson's Carol will battle the shapeshifting Skrulls. The movie's cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson reprising Nick Fury (who will have both of his eyes), Jude Law as Walter Lawson/Mar-Vell and Gemma Chan as Minn-Erva. Ben Mendelsohn and Robert Kazinsky have also been cast in undisclosed roles, though Mendelsohn is rumored to be playing Kree villain Yon-Rogg.
