One Of Avengers: Infinity Wars Fake Scripts Had Loki Surviving

Despite arriving in theaters back in April, the events of Avengers: Infinity War are still being felt throughout the MCU, and the movie world as we know it. The Russo Brothers crafted an emotional and epic story, servicing tons of characters in the process. Josh Brolin's Thanos killed countless fan favorites, and the stakes got really high when he murdered Tom Hiddleston's Loki in the opening sequence.

But not everyone got the memo that Loki was going to perish. Mostly because the folks behind Infinity War put fake scripts out there, which helped to protect the blockbuster's myriad secrets. One had Loki escaping the Asgardian ship, as The Russo Brothers recently explained:

We created a version of the script where Loki would get away in an escape pod at the beginning of the movie. When we started shooting that particular sequence, we had crew members who were thoroughly confused. We had to let them know that those were fake versions of the script that they read.

Well, that's one way to avoid spoilers. Multiple scripts put each one into question. So if the real events of Infinity War got leaked, there'd be no telling which script was fake, and which was genuine. And it worked, because Infinity War had countless unexpected twists and turns.

The Russo Brothers' new comments come from the new book The Art of Avengers: Infinity War (via Screen Rant) where various members of the production team open up about the process of crafting the third Avengers flick. There were a ton of balls in the air, and it seemed almost impossible to use every character properly. This includes Loki, who was arguably the most fascinating Marvel villain before Thanos arrived on the scene.

Unfortunately for the God of Mischief, he didn't end up escaping from a pod and making his way to Earth for the battles in Wakanda or New York. Instead, Loki ended up making one more play at power and survival-- hopefully saving both his brother and the galaxy in the process. After handing over the tesseract to Thanos, he tried to assassinate the Mad Titan.

But Thanos wasn't going to be killed that easily, or killed at all, during Avengers: Infinity War. Quite a few characters nearly ended it, with Loki, Gamora, and Thor all making strong attempts at Thanos' life. But the power of the Infinity Stones proved the endless macguffin, especially once he got his hands on the Time Stone.

Of course, there are still plenty of theories claiming that Loki might not be dead. He was the god of mischief, so perhaps it was just a projection of the character? The Thor franchise got new life with Ragnarok, so perhaps Tom Hiddleston will want to stick around.

Going all the way back to the original 2000 film, the X-Men franchise has kept going strong, and continued releasing massive blockbusters as shared universes starting popping up. Fox is now producing genre-defying works like Logan and Deadpool, while the main narrative continues in Dark Phoenix. Dark Phoenix will take the mutant heroes into space for the first time, and director Simon Kinberg recently revealed how the Marvel Cinematic Universe helped this occur.

What Marvel Studios has done in terms of making [superhero] movies extra-terrestrial has helped us to tell this story, to also go to outer space, to have alien characters. There are scenes in outer space, you couldn't have had that in Logan.

It looks like the X-Men may have needed to lean on their Marvel brothers and sisters in order to finally catapult the story into space. But thanks to projects like Guardians of the Galaxy, the mutants are finally heading there for the first time in live-action.

Simon Kinberg's comments at New York Comic-Con (via THR) make a great deal of sense, and show how interconnected the respective superhero franchises actually are. While red tape has kept the X-Men and Avengers separated by two separate studios, there is clearly some cross pollination and influence happening. And once the MCU began telling intergalactic stories, it opened a window for Fox's team of superheroes.

The MCU entered space with James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy, which also had far more quirkiness and comedy than its Marvel predecessors. The Thor franchise eventually followed suit, as Ragnarok brought the God of Thunder and Hulk to Sakaar. Infinity War combined Thor with the Guardians for his own journey through the galaxy, so there has been precedent set for superheroes in space.

On paper, it seems like Dark Phoenix couldn't function without bringing the heroes to space. In the comic book plot of the same name, Jean Grey is possessed by the phoenix force while on a mission on space-- something that the film's NYCC footage confirmed for the film adaptation. Its a sequence that sounds awesome and expensive, but it seems that both audiences and studios needed to be convinced that the X-Men in space was possible. Cue Marvel's cosmic blockbusters.

Fans of the genre will definitely remember the X-Men franchise's last attempt at bringing Jean's Dark Phoenix to the silver screen. X-Men: The Last Stand is largely considered the worst entry in the property, with massive changes being made to both the canon and the comic book source material. The pressure is on for Simon Kinberg to make things right the second time around.

Will Spider-Man Actually Appear In Venom? Here's What The Movie's Director Says

Spider-Man has one of the biggest rogues gallery in all of comic book history, but he has a particularly close connection to Venom. Peter Parker brought the Venom symbiote back to Earth, but when he realized the alien was trying to permanently bond with him, he rid himself of it. The creature then attached itself to Eddie Brock, and thus Venom was born. So you'd think that in a movie about Venom's origin story, Spider-Man would play an important role. However, Venom is taking a self-contained approach with showing Eddie Brock's transformation into the monstrous anti-hero, and while there have been rumors that Peter Parker might at least cameo in the movie, director Ruben Fleischer has seemingly implied that the Web-Slinger will not be present. In Fleischer's words:

This feels very much like Venom's movie. It's the introduction of the character. As to where it will go in future movies, and who he'll run across, I can't say.

Ever since the Venom movie was announced to be officially moving forward, there had been conflicting information on whether or not it exists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Last year, producer Amy Pascal suggested that Venom will stay unconnected from the other Marvel franchise, although Sony reportedly considers its Spider-verse to be "adjunct" to Spider-Man: Homecoming and the rest of the MCU. So from there, it seemed like the chances were slim, but not impossible, that Spider-Man would show up in Venom, and Ruben Fleischer's comment to Empire indicate that it's highly unlikely Tom Holland will reprise Peter Parker, even for a quick appearance. So if you're looking for a movie where Spider-Man is indirectly responsible for Venom's creation, you'll have to stick with Spider-Man 3.

Despite the lack of Spider-Man, Venom is still including a fair amounts of elements from the character's comic book history. Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock is an investigative journalist, he has a relationship with Ann Weying, the symbiote is an alien from outer space, Eddie will be clashing with The Life Foundation, and because Planet of the Symbiotes is one of the movie's main inspirations, that suggests we might see Venom battling other people who've been taken over by symbiotes. It's also rumored that Woody Harrelson, who is only in "a little fraction" of Venom, is playing Cletus Kasady, better known in the comics as Carnage. Assuming this Carnage information is true, then should Venom be a commercial success, then it sounds like we would see Eddie and Cletus duke it out in Venom 2. Alas, barring any future changes, it doesn't look like Spider-Man will have any role to play in these particular shenanigans, but it's okay. He has enough to keep himself busy in the MCU.
