Disney Might Want To Use James Gunn's Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 Script After All

In the last few weeks, Hollywood has not stopped buzzing about the status of the relationship between James Gunn and Marvel Studios' upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It was officially announced late last month that the filmmaker would no longer be directing the blockbuster - but what has remained up in the air is the status of the script that Gunn has already written for the movie. On that front, we don't have any kind of official statement from the studio, but according to a new report, the company does want to keep the existing script in play.

This update comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter, which notes that the negotiations between James Gunn and Disney are still underway, and, according to sources, that the status of the script is a topic of discussion. The trade says that the talks primarily center around the filmmaker's exit settlement, and while the full details are unclear, the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script is reportedly something that Disney is interested in holding on to and using.

This is a particularly notable detail if you've been paying attention to the day-to-day of this whole affair. In the last week, Dave Bautista - who has not minced words in his support of James Gunn - went on the record saying that he would find a way out of his Marvel contract if the filmmaker's script isn't used for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. This surely has to be an element that Disney is factoring into their moves going forward, as losing Bautista would be a big deal. Not only is Drax The Destroyer an immensely popular character, but being forced to recast him would leave the developing project with an unignorable scar and constant reminder to fans of the behind-the-scenes controversy.

As for the script itself, it's not hard to imagine why Disney would want to hold on to and utilize the work that James Gunn has already done for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. They've made it clear that they won't keep him on as the director, but there is also no ignoring the auteur imprint that he has left on the previous two installments of the series. Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, Groot, Nebula and Mantis wouldn't be who they are on the big screen without Gunn's particular sensibilities and style, and it's in Disney's best interest to have the next film maintain the tonal continuity - even if another filmmaker is brought on-board to execute it (admittedly a pretty thankless job). At this point Disney should be looking at the longview, and making sure that this whole mess is as invisible as possible when audiences are watching the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy 50 years from now, and their best option within that perspective is using Gunn's screenplay.

We won't really know anything for sure until we get official statements from Disney, Marvel and James Gunn, and those could still be weeks away for all we know. Obviously we'll be keeping a close eye on the whole situation, so stay tuned here on CinemaBlend for all the latest information.

Check Out The Halloween Reboot Cast Heading To Haddonfield High School

It's a good time to be a horror fan. Rather than stale franchises or the torture porn fad, the horror genre is in the midst of a renaissance. New and creative properties are being explored, leading to some major blockbuster hits like IT and Get Out. Many of the genre's strongest installments from the past few years come to us from Blumhouse Productions, and now the studio has set its eyes on a classic property: Halloween. The new Halloween sequel will bring back OG contributors like Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter, with the movie currently in the midst of production. Actress Andi Matichak is starring as Laurie Strode's daughter Allison, and recently shared an image of the teenage character outside of Haddonfield High School. Check it out!

I don't know about you guys, but something tells me not all of those kids are going to make it out of Halloween alive. Haddonfield students haven't had such an easy time in the past, and the 40 years anniversary will no doubt bring bloodshed to a variety of innocents. It's just what Michael Myers does.

This new image, which comes to us from Andi Matichak's personal Instagram page, is sure to excite the hardcore Halloween fans out there. While the franchise had changed quite a bit throughout its myriad sequels, John Carpenter's original movie was a capsulated story about a group of babysitters and best friends. As Laurie, Lynda, and Annie prepare for their night in, we see as Michael Myers slowly stalks them until the girls are at their most exposed. It's only then when he eventually strikes, putting most of his attention on Jamie Lee Curtis' signature character.

Overall, the new Halloween movie seems to be taking a ton of influence from the original 1978 movie. In addition to ignoring all of the film's sequels, writer Danny McBride has cited Halloween as his favorite horror movie of all time. This enthusiasm and intention to honor the original is no doubt part of the reason why talent Jamie Lee Curtis and Nick Castle agreed to return. Narratively, it also makes sense for a cast of teenagers to be introduced, and then promptly killed off. This will presumably allow Laurie Strode, her daughter Karen, and Andi Matichak's Allison the chance to hopefully unite against the threat of Michael Myers.

It should be interesting to see how the new Halloween movie balances the three generations of Strodes. While the story will no doubt be very focused on Laurie Strode's journey and trauma in the wake of her attack 40 years prior, there are also two other women to follow throughout the course of the film. It'll be great to see their three perspectives on both the Holiday and Haddonfield High School itself. Let's just hope that at least one of Allison's friends makes it out alive.

Halloween is filming now, and will arrive in theaters on October 19, 2018, just in time for the titular holiday. In the meantime, check out our 2018 release list to plan your next binge watch.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge Just Revealed A Ton Of Exciting New Details

There is reason to celebrate in the Star Wars universe (even as the latest chapter in the cinematic saga underperformed). Fans who love stories set in the galaxy far, far away still have more than enough to look forward to with upcoming movies and TV shows that have been announced. And those same fans soon will be able to step into the world of Star Wars when Galaxy's Edge opens at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 2019. CinemaBlend recently attended Star Wars: Galactic Nights, the celebration of all things Star Wars that's held at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, and learned fresh details on the pending park.

We knew, from previous Orlando visits, that the planet on which Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will be based is called Batuu. This is a new planet in the Star Wars universe, and it will be the location of an immersive experience for visitors to the Galaxy's Edge park and eventual hotel. During our most recent stop at Galactic Nights, though, we also learned that the village that will accept visitors who are coming to Batuu will be known as Black Spire Outpost. The reason? The Disney Imagineers basically imagined that thousands of years ago, there would have been tall, towering trees that overlooked the river by this village. As they eroded and petrified, they formed unique formations that surrounded the village. And there will be one specific spire that will be central to the village as a mile-marker for travelers and settlers... an infamous location where visitors' adventure will begin!

Disney revealed that Batuu is a remote frontier outpost on the edge of the galaxy. It used to be an old trading post, though it has kind of fallen off the popular paths. It's isolation, according to the Disney Imagineers who are working hard on the land, make Batuu perfect for smugglers and bounty hunters who want to stay off of the grid as they look for their next jobs. And it's the stepping off point for the Star Wars stories that are going to take place at Galaxy's Edge.

Guests will be able to walk through interactive markets, drink and eat snacks from across the galaxy, sample toys and jewelry that you can only find on Batuu, and more. But because Batuu is a space port, this also means that there will be spaceships, including the Millennium Falcon. We learned that one of the big set pieces of Galaxy's Edge will be a ride that puts you in the cockpit of the Falcon, behind the controls, for an important mission. The second anchor attraction, which was revealed during Galactic Nights, will put patrons in the middle of a ship battle between The First Order and the Resistance, aboard an actual-sized Resistance Troop Transport, that sounds like it's going to be an epic experience.

Speaking of "epic," the team announced that as part of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, they are building full-sized AT-ATs that will be in the park. That's incredible!

In addition to the rides and ships that guests to Galaxy's Edge will be able to board, the team revealed that a special character who has surfaced in the Star Wars movies also will be important to the story being told in the theme park. Nien Nunb, a character who was in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and later in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, will be part of the Galaxy's Edge experience. And Disney Parks actually found the original actor who voiced the character to capture his voice, traveling all the way to Africa to record the accent to make sure it is as authentic as possible.

The team working on Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge say that the 14-acre land is progressing rapidly, though there's still so much work to be done. It was revealed that the Disneyland Galaxy's Edge will open in Summer of 2019, while the Orlando location will open "Late Fall" of the same year. That will all be leading up to the opening of J.J.
